MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
                          June 10, 2008

1.        Meeting called to order by Anita
2.        Father Foley opened the meeting and members joined him in the Lord’s Prayer,
minutes were approved, and then members read the Mission Statement.
3.        Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe, Anita Fenton, Mike Chase, Kathy Cushing,
Janet Rauktis, Paul Franco, Diane Long, Stacy Avril, Kristina Latino, and Kathy Johnson
4.        Financial Report: We are in good financial shape. The bulletin says we are a bit
behind, but we are really a bit ahead because of donations other than weekly
offerings.  There will be another finance meeting towards the end of July to set the
budget. We received a donation of $10,000 from a charitable fund set up in the name of
Dr. Anne-Maria Moggio. The money was used to help pay for the new doors, and a
plaque will be made to put near the doors in memory of Dr. Anne-Maria. An air-
conditioner was bought for the rectory office for a cost of less than $200, and it was
installed by Rob Campbell. We exceeded our Partners in Charity goal, raising about
$101,300 with a goal of $98,000.

Additional Business
5.      Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe The signs for the parking lot are in and will
be cemented in and a chain will be draped across the lower end of the lot eventually.
The front doors have been installed, but need a little adjusting. The tree near the
parking lot has been trimmed, so now the whole lot is lit. We are waiting for one more
bid for the replacement boiler. More valves are leaking so the cost will be more than
originally thought. The cost will be between $60,000 - $70,000, but it will pay for itself in
6-7 years through oil savings. We will have a special fundraiser to help pay for the new
boiler.
During the calendar meeting, it was brought up that some organizations want to use
the chairs from the Conference Room, but no one can take the chairs out of the
Conference Room. The CYC bought the chairs specifically for this room.
The church is cleaner than in the past, but more still needs to be done. Although the
new custodian is excellent, he’s only part-time. All organizations need to pick up after
themselves
The floors in the sanctuary need to be stripped of all the built up wax before it is
redone.
No one should touch the pilot light on the stove in the church hall; it needs to be left
on at all times.
6.     New Business: During the fall, Father would like to have a number of items ready
for distribution, including: folders with descriptions of windows and Marquetries,
parish pamphlet describing ministries and ministry sign up sheets. Father has received
some nice comments about the website.
7.     Old Business: A representative from each of the ministries should attend the
meetings    which are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The
Knights are still interested in getting together information to publish a new booklet
outlining the ministries available in the parish, and we hope to have it completed in
time for distribution at Septemberfest. All organizations are asked to look at the
website and e-mail the site administrator with any corrections. Each organization
should e-mail the site administrator even if there are no corrections so we can be sure
every group has had a chance to update their information before publication. Each
group should have an up-to-date contact person. The website is: www.christthekingma.
org. If your ministry is not listed, please write a description of your work and send it to
the site administrator. Thank you in advance for your

Ministry Reports

8.        Social Committee  The Social Committee and the Knights will be meeting to plan
the Septemberfest which is on September 14th. Italian Night is in November. Our
weeks with Interfaith Hospitality went well. The guests were very happy with the
accommodations and the volunteers had no problems-everything went smoothly.
9.        CCD Registration is ongoing, and more teachers are needed. CYC advisor will
mention the need at the next CYC meeting to recruit teachers.
10.      CYC Kristina First Baccalaureate mass was fairly successful. Not many people
participated, but those who did had an enjoyable time. The music was beautiful and the
reception was nice. It was suggested to hold the mass on a Sunday next year. The 4:00
Installation mass went well, with CYC members acting as Eucharistic ministers and
lectors.
11.                Women’s Guild  no report
12.        Post Bereavement Committee  no report
13.        Knight of Columbus Deacon Joe The cookout Wednesday night went well. The
Handicap spots in the front and the back of the church should only be used by the
handicapped. Please be considerate of those who need these spaces.
14.        Mustard Seed Committee no report
15.        Grocery Gift Cards Kathy- Sales have dropped off significantly. Our best week
was   $1800 and last week we sold only $460 worth of cards. Thank you to the families
who buy cards weekly. If you haven’t bought a card, please consider helping fight
homelessness by buying a grocery card. It costs the person buying the card nothing
extra. The cards are sold for Big Y, Shaw’s, and Stop and Shop, and are available in
different denominations. You get full value when used to buy your weekly groceries at
these stores. You can buy the cards after all masses with cash or a check made out to
Hope for Housing. Although we have been participating for just a short while, other
parishes have been selling cards for a year now. The Committee almost met their goal
of $20,000. All the parishes together raised over $18,000 by receiving 5% of all cards
sold. Please consider using a gift card when shopping. The following note was sent by
the Committee to Prevent Homelessness.

Vacation Plans

If you are planning a vacation this summer please consider purchasing extra
“homeless prevention grocery cards” to take with you for your shopping while you are
away. Both Shaw’s and Stop & Shop have locations all over the Cape Cod and
elsewhere in New England. Likewise, Big Y markets have many locations in the western
sections of Massachusetts. While many of us are away our grocery shopping can be at
work helping families in the Worcester area that are facing homelessness. May you
have a safe and enjoyable vacation and thank you for preventing family homelessness.

16.        The meeting was concluded with a prayer led by Deacon Joe followed by the
recitation of the Hail Mary.  The next meeting will be August 12th at 7:30 p.m. All parish
organizations should send a representative to the meeting.

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please see Father Foley.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
