MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
February 5, 2008
1.        Meeting called to order by Father Foley
2.        Father Foley opened the meeting with a prayer and
members joined him in the Lord’s Prayer. Minutes were
approved from the last meeting, and then members read the
Mission Statement.
3.        Present: Father Foley, Chris McSherry, Deacon Joe,
Vincent Matulaitis, Mary Sullivan, Mark Brennan, and Kathy
Johnson
4.        Financial Report: We are in good financial shape. The first
two collections of the month have been generally good.
5.        Additional Business  The full-time janitor is gone, and a
part-time temporary worker has been hired. Some money will be
recouped from the health insurance cost for the ½ year the full-
time custodian will not receive. Father is looking to make the part-
time position a permanent position. The position will pay $17 per
hour for 10 hours per week. There will be no benefits offered,
which will save us about $25,000/year.
After we get some prices for the doors and the boilers, we will
probably run a fundraiser to complete these projects. We cannot
afford to pay for these projects out of the regular budget. Father
thinks the cost will be about $50,000. The fundraiser information
will go out when the costs come in. The fundraiser will not be run
at the same time as Partners in Charity. The Partners in Charity
can begin in mid-April and can be completed by mid-May.
The diocese has received an e-mail from a New York energy
broker. The Chancery is looking into the cost benefits of buying
gas and electricity as a collective body, combining parishes with
diocesan operations.
Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe  We need to do something
about the doors in the front of the church. Another one of the
front doors recently broke. All the doors need to be replaced for
safety and insulation reasons. We are seriously looking into
replacing the boilers with more efficient ones. The boilers are
working, but they should be replaced because they are
inefficient. We are spending more on heating than we would with
newer boilers. Father will be getting prices for the replacement of
the boilers. All the other parts of the system are fine; we just
need to replace the boilers themselves. Bafaros usually gives a
good price, but the project will be put out to bid. It will include
some asbestos removal. We also need to paint the foyer. Ideally,
the windows in the rectory should be replaced, but this is not a
priority at this time.
The alarm company came for a check of the system. Four
batteries needed to be replaced and the heat detectors are
broken and need to be replaced. Simplex will be joining the
rectory, which has an antiquated system, with the church, which
is state of the art. The cost should be about $5000-$10,000.
There has been a light sensor installed in the bathroom in the
foyer to save energy. The windows in the Johnson Room will be
cleaned in the spring.
There have been some CYC members helping with church
upkeep (dusting, cleaning. maintenance).  If there is anyone else
in the parish who would like to volunteer, Deacon Joe could use
some help. Call Mindy at the rectory and leave your name and
Deacon Joe will contact you.
Deacon Joe has spoken to a number of people who continue to
park in front of the rectory garage doors. This cannot continue-
cars will be towed.
6.        Old Business: New parish council members are needed.
Also, a representative from each of the ministries should attend
the meetings which are usually held on the first Tuesday of each
month at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Men’s Retreat at Cavalry on
February 22nd -24th.    The Men’s Conference will be held at the
DCU Center on March 8th, and a scholarship is available-see
Father Foley if interested. There will be a Blood Drive on
February 22nd. The Knights are still interested in getting together
information to publish a new booklet outlining the ministries
available in the parish. All organizations are asked to look at the
website and e-mail the site administrator with any corrections.
Each organization should e-mail the site administrator even if
there are no corrections so we can be sure every group has had
a chance to update their information before publication. Each
group should have an up-to-date contact person. The website is:
www.christthekingma.org. If your ministry is not listed, please
write a description of your work and send it to the site
administrator. Thank you in advance for your attention

Ministry Reports

7.        Social Committee  Parish Appreciation Banquet is
schedule for May 3rd
8.        CCD Margaret through Father Last Wednesday, some
Confirmation students served at the Mustard Seed. They are
looking for more volunteers to do the same next month. If no
volunteers come forward, then they won’t be going down.
Moussa and Rob did the cooking here, and volunteers helped
bring it down to the Mustard Seed and serve.
9.        CYC Chris $1125 was raised on Souper Bowl Sunday.
Jeremiah’s Inn, St. Vincent de Paul, and DSS food voucher
program will benefit from this collection. Thanks to all who
contributed.
10.        Women’s Guild Mary The CYC and the women’s Guild will
pay for rug cleaning in the Johnson Room. Mary will check with
Mindy about scheduling. Mary asked about locking the church
when a group leaves. Deacon Joe said that there is someone
who locks the church every night, but all groups are responsible
for emptying their trash into the dumpster and picking up after
themselves. An Evening of Recollection will be held on March
11th at the church-watch the bulletin for more details.
11.        Men’s Club no report
12.        Post Bereavement Committee  Margaret through Father
Letters are no longer sent throughout the month, but rather once
a month to all parishioners who have lost a loved one. This, as
well as phone calls, seems to be working better. If anyone in the
parish knows of someone who could use some help from the
committee, please contact Mindy at the rectory, and she will pass
the information to the committee. There will be a guest speaker
in March, more details will follow.
13.        Knight of Columbus Mark The Dinner/ Dance was a
success with 86 people attending.
The meeting was concluded with a prayer led by Deacon Joe
followed by the recitation of the Hail Mary.  The next meeting will
be March 4th at 7:30 p.m. All parish organizations should send a
representative to the meeting.

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please
see Father Foley.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
