MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
                                                 April 4, 2006

1.        Meeting called to order by Anita Fenton.
2.        Father Foley opened the meeting with a blessing and members joined
him in the Lord’s Prayer. Anita then led the members in the reading of the
Mission Statement.
3.        Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe, Jack Staples, Anita Fenton, Mary
Sullivan,  Carol Bertel, Vincent Matulaitis, Janet Rauktis, and Kathy Johnson
4.        Pastor’s Report: Based on the weekly offerings, we are behind, but the
deficit is comparable to the past. Heating bills have not been as high as
projected and everything should be fine through June or July when
donations always drop off in the summer months and we go further behind.
Father will be meeting with the finance committee soon. He is looking to
possibly expanding the committee to include people experienced with or
interested in fundraising. Vinny is the chairman of our parish’s Bishop Fund
collection. The goal for Christ the King has been dropped to a more realistic
$90,000. A parishioner has approached Father about expanding the
Bereavement Committee to include people who could offer support to
families in their time of loss. This part of the committee would stay in contact
with the family and offer help with some of the necessary but confusing
aspects of losing a loved one such as Social Security issues, changing bank
account names, obtaining death certificate, etc. The members would put
together informational packets to help guide the bereaved through  these
times. We need more Eucharistic ministers and lectors. These committees
need to be reorganized and updated. Father Foley could use a pastoral
assistant to help with the running of the parish. At this time there is not
enough money to hire one, but it is something we should consider for the
near future. The diocese is running a diocese-wide stewardship program in
May. The theme is TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE.  The purpose of the
program is to generate interest and participation in the parish.  Through the
Stewardship Program it may be possible to raise the funds needed to hire
the pastoral associate.
5.        Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe  The kneelers in the church
should be replaced, but it is very expensive. It would cost about $7500 to
refurbish them. We need new tops for the lights on the walkway. These
would cost about $4800. There is one super project that needs to be
considered. The divider walls in the church hall need to be replaced. This
project will cost about $500,000. The rectory has working smoke and CO2
alarms. Three more will be put in the church hall and Johnson Center.
6.        Old Business: New parish council members are needed. Also, a
representative from each of the ministries should attend the meetings which
are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
7.        Ministry
Reports:

8.        Knights of Columbus  Deacon Joe The Knights need to meet with the
Social Committee to discuss the possibility of having the Parish Picnic on
the church grounds on September 16th. Scholarship information will be
included in the bulletin along with information about the Women’s Guild
scholarship. There will be a dinner/ dance on May 6th with dancers from the
Holy Cross Ballroom dance team. The Parish Appreciation dinner will be
held on April 21st at 5:30. The groups in the parish should send out
invitations to their members with their individual schedules. . It would be nice
to have greater participation in the Parish Appreciation dinner. The Men’s
Conference was a success. More than 1200 men participated.
9.        CCD  Carol  It was suggested that 7th and 8th graders be called
personally and asked to become altar servers.
10.        CYC No Report.
11.        Women’s Guild Mary  The annual Mother’s Day Shower for the needy
sponsored by the Women’s Guild will be held on Sunday, May 7th. New and
used items in good condition will be accepted.  Since the October Living
Rosary was such a wonderful success, the Women’s Guild is considering
sponsoring another one in May. Watch the church bulletin for more
information about both events.
12.        Men’s Club Jack The Men’s Club will be serving at the Mustard Seed
on May 26th. The Mike Ratte Golf Tournament will be held on June 4th. Last
year, about $5000 was given in scholarships through this event
13.        Social Committee Janet The Interfaith Hospitality committee will be
welcoming families in the church hall next month. There has been a good
response to the cards left in the foyer asking for help. There is a need for
responsible people to be in charge of closing up the program on May 20-21.
Most of the main organizers have prior commitments out of town and will not
be here for the final days. Please see Father and he will inform the committee
if you are able to help out during this time.
14.        New Business Altar servers are needed for weekend masses, and
adults are needed to act as altar servers for funeral masses during the day.
There is a sign-up meeting on June 6th for all parish ministries. All groups
should be represented to get their activities on the parish calendar.

The meeting was concluded with a prayer and Hail Mary led by Deacon Joe.
The next meeting will be May 2nd  at 7:30 p.m. New members are welcome
and encouraged to attend. Please see Father Foley.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
