MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
October 7, 2008
1.        Meeting called to order by Anita
2.        Father Foley opened the meeting and members joined him in the
Hail Mary, and then members read the Mission Statement.
3.        Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe, Mike Chase, Anita Fenton,
Paul Franco, Joan Cross, Janet Rauktis, Diane Long and Kathy
Johnson
4.        Financial Report: Finance meeting will be held next Monday, and
then members will speak at each of the masses to explain the
churches finances. Parishioners will be asked to continue giving at
their current level. The numbers in the bulletin are what we need to
operate the parish on a weekly basis. The weekly donations are
reported, but we also get donations, which helps us reach our weekly
goal. There is about $102,000 in the bank at this time. There are no big
projects coming up but there may be a few small ones. We don’t know
what the heating bills will be yet. The Bereavement Committee is in
need of new members. It is a valuable ministry and it is hoped that
some new parishioners can take over and continue meeting the needs
of parishioners in their time of need. Because November 1st is a
Saturday, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation.
5.       Additional Business
Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe  There has been a problem with
youth around the parish grounds; they shake the light pole causing
the bulbs to break. It is not done intentionally and adults need to watch
for this and put a stop to it. They have also stolen cones, cut the flag
rope, and changed letters on the sign in the front of the church. It was
suggested that something could be put in the bulletin about expected
behavior on church grounds. Deacon Joe said he will be putting up
swinging pipes to help decrease traffic cutting through the parking lot.
There is still concern about the tree out front and people tracking in the
leaves making it slippery. He is trying to get a machine to paint the
lines in the church parking lot. He also said the Dolans have taken
good care of the grounds.
6.        New Business There will be a mass and reception for the Lady of
Providence on October 21st and the Ascension Alumni will celebrate
mass followed by a reception. On October 26th.  Father will look into
having a mass for the deceased members of Christ the King on
November 2nd.
7.        Old Business: Mike continues to work on a system of
communication between the hospitals and the parishes. Christ the
King will take part in a pilot program between St. Vincent’s and the
parish. When a parishioner is admitted to the hospital, they must
okay being put on a list that will be shared with the parish. Mike has
been working on summarizing information onto one sheet and onto a
wallet-sized card. When discharged, it is important to let the parish
know where you are gong after discharge. He hopes to devise a
system to keep better track of the homebound who would like
scheduled visits.
Deacon Joe will look into where we stand on the publication of the
Parish Booklet.

Ministry Reports

8.       Social Committee:   Senior Luncheon October 25th, Italian Night
is November 8th. Tickets will be sold after masses. Septemberfest was
a fun day and the committee made about $200 which was fine because
it is not meant to be a fundraiser.
9.       CCD no report
10.     CYC Diane:   Many of the CYC members have signed up to help
at the Senior Luncheon and Italian Night. The retreat is in Framingham
at the Marist House. The cost will be about $75 each, and will be the
weekend of November 21-23. There is a limit of 65 and $40 deposits will
be taken soon.
11.     Women’s Guild  Joan:  The Living Rosary will be October 19th at
6:3. It is hoped that there will be 60 people to participate. Refreshments
will follow. There will be an Evening of Recollection in December.

The meeting was concluded with a prayer led by Deacon Joe followed
by the recitation of the Our Father.  The next meeting will be November
4th at 7:00 p.m., earlier because of Election Day.  All parish
organizations should send a representative to the meeting.

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please see
Father Foley.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
