MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
November 1, 2005
1. Meeting called to order by Anita Fenton.
2. Father Foley opened the meeting with a blessing and
members joined him in the Lord’s Prayer. Anita then led the
members in the reading of the Mission Statement.
3. Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe Baniukiewicz, Anita
Fenton, Celeste Hedge-Lionett, Carol Bertel, and Kathy
Johnson
4. Pastor’s Report: Based on the weekly offerings, we
are already $6000 behind. We have no outstanding bills, just
the monthly bills to pay. Fuel bills are expected to be about
$7500 each month during the heating season. The new
hymnals have been received and will be put out for the first
Sunday of Advent, which is November 27th. We had to pay
$4200 for the first payment, which included shipping and
handling charges. For the next two years we will be paying
about $3000. A letter will be mailed to parishioners offering
hymnal dedications probably for $20 to help defray the cost
of the books. There will be an 8:00AM Mass on Thanksgiving
Day. The Liturgy Committee hasn’t met in a while so a
meeting will have to be scheduled. The number and times of
Christmas masses were discussed. The tentative schedule is
Christmas Eve: 4:00PM, 6:00PM, and 10:00PM; Christmas
Day: 8:00AM and 10:00AM. New Years Day is on a Sunday,
so the regular weekend mass schedule will be followed.
5. Temporal Administrator: Allied Roofing has repaired
the foyer roof. There were some leaks in the Johnson Room
after the recent rain. Allied Roofing made repairs while they
were here for no cost because the roof was under warranty.
When using church facilities it is important that everyone
remember to conserve fuel by keeping doors closed and
lights off if they are not needed. Cracked kneelers have been
taped. All kneelers will eventually be replaced. Father will
look into the cost of replacement, which will be done in the
spring after the winter weather to prevent salt damage. The
sound system needs to be fixed in the cry room. It should be
remembered that all doors should be kept shut when using
the cry room, because it is not a sound proof room, but with
the doors shut, the sounds are contained.
6. Old Business: New parish council members are
needed. Also, a representative from each of the ministries
should attend the meetings which are usually held on the
first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
7. Ministry Reports: Attending
Committees:
Knights of Columbus: (Deacon Joe Baniukiewicz) The
church cleanup is scheduled for November 19th. The Girl
Scouts will be cleaning the inside of the church and the Boy
Scouts will be cleaning the outside grounds. Everyone is
invited to join them. The Knights have a trip to Foxwoods
scheduled for November 18th; all are welcome to join them.
They may have a dinner/ dance in the spring. They are
looking at joining with the Social Committee to have a church
picnic on church grounds. The Knights need more male
members. To be a member a man must be a practicing
Catholic 18 years or older. As a benefit of becoming a Knight,
any child of a Knight who is a police officer, firefighter, or
military person who is killed in the line of duty receives full
tuition at any Catholic University in the United States.
Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month. The
next meeting is on November 14th. They are holding an open
house with refreshments and Monday Night Football.
Interested men should drop by for more information about
the Knights of Columbus.
Religious Education: (Carol Bertel) There is still a shortage
of CCD teachers. If you can help out as a weekly teacher or
as a substitute teacher, please call Carol Bertel. There are
about 83 children registered for First Penance. Parents
should be aware that the rules have changed and children
should receive First Penance before First Communion.
CYC : The annual retreat took place on October 28th-30th at
Oakhurst. More then 60 kids attended. It was a great time for
everyone who attended. Christ the King and Blessed
Sacrament parishes participated in the weekend.
Women’s Guild: (Celeste) The Living Rosary was a success.
Approximately 30 people attended and helped to make it a
powerful experience. It will become an annual event and
with more advertisement, hopefully more people will
become involved in this prayerful occasion. An Evening of
Recollection will take place on December 19th. The bishop is
the featured speaker. More information will be forthcoming.
The Interfaith Hospitality was asked to host families for three
weeks this year, but we are unable to accommodate the
request. We cannot commit the church hall for three weeks
with all the activities that take place in our parish. The
families will be with us from May 14th to the 28th next year.
The meeting was concluded with a prayer and Hail Mary led
by Deacon Joe. The next meeting will be Tuesday,
December 6th at 7:30PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
