MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
October 3, 2006
1. Meeting called to order by Anita Fenton
2. Father Foley opened the meeting with a blessing and members
joined him in the Lord’s Prayer. Members then read the Mission
Statement.
3. Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe, Paul Franco, Vincent
Matulaitis, Janet Rauktis, Mary Sullivan, Anita Fenton, and Kathy
Johnson
4. Pastor’s Report: Financial Report: This year we had a deficit of
$3,894 which would have been much worse if we hadn’t received
special gifts totaling about $35,000. We cannot continue to rely on
these generous gifts; weekly contributions need to increase. If
everyone increases their current contribution by 30%, the parish will
receive an additional $120,000. In the near future, more lay people
will be needed to minister to parishioners as parishes combine and
the number of priests declines. We do not currently have the means
to pay for the help we will need with the current level of support. The
offertory renewal program has begun. There was a notice in the
bulletin this past weekend and there will be two more of these
announcements. There will be a mailing to the homes of all
parishioners on October 16th to announce the program. There will be
a presentation at all masses on October 21st and 22nd from the
finance committee to explain the program and the hopeful outcome.
A letter will be sent to parishioners who currently give to request an
offering increase on the 23rd. A different letter will be sent to those
who currently receive the benefits of belonging to Christ the King but
do not yet contribute to its support. We recently had to use $35,000
from savings to pay for the offertory program and needed repairs in
the church.
Additional Business: New parishioners can register by calling the
rectory. There will possibly be an in-pew registration in the coming
weeks.
5. Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe The cost of repairing the
furnace was less than originally thought. Instead of $6900, it cost
$4800 to replace the furnace valves. The repair was required by the
insurance company before they would renew the insurance.
Hopefully the repairs will provide a few more years of service. It
would be more economical to run a new boiler, but we do not
currently have the funds to replace the system.
6. Old Business: New parish council members are needed. Also, a
representative from each of the ministries should attend the
meetings which are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month
at 7:30 p.m.
7. New Business: There will be a training program for new altar
servers on October 14th at 9 a.m. Confirmation has been scheduled
for April 26th. If any person or organization wants to contribute to the
Interfaith Hospitality Network there is a man willing to match funds
up to $20,000 through December 31, 2006.
Ministry
Reports:
8. Knights of Columbus: Deacon Joe - Texas Hold ‘Em will be held
on November 17th. Pre-registrations will be solicited and rules and
regulations will be given. There will be 8 people at each table and the
tables will be combined as people fall out. The buy-in will be $40.
Prizes will be awarded. The dinner/ dance will be held on March 3,
2007. They Knights are co-sponsoring the October 15th Parish Family
Day.
9. CCD: The CCD program is running smoothly with increased
enrollment. The phone line is getting checked out tomorrow for a
possible repair. There are still opportunities to get involved in the
religious ed. program. Call for information.
10. CYC: No Report
11. Women’s Guild: Mary - The Living Rosary will be celebrated on
Sunday, October 22th at 6:30. It was a lovely event last year, and
everyone is invited to attend and participate again this year.
Hopefully this year there will be enough people present to become a
“bead” on the entire rosary.
12. Men’s Club: No Report
13. Social Committee: Janet - The parish Family Day will be held
rain or shine on October 15th. The Senior Luncheon will be on
October 28th. Both events are sponsored with the Men’s and
Women’s Clubs. The Italian Night will be on November 4th.
The meeting was concluded with a prayer by Deacon Joe followed
by the reciting of the Hail Mary. The next meeting will be November
7th at 7:30 p.m. All parish organizations should send a representative
to the meeting. New members are welcome and encouraged to
attend. Please see Father Foley.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
