MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
January 4, 2005
1. Meeting was called to order by Father Foley.
2. Father Foley opened the meeting with a blessing and members joined him in the
Lord's prayer. Anita then led the members in the reading of the Mission Statement.
3. December meeting was cancelled due to weather. November's Secretary's report
was approved.
4. Present: Father Foley, Deacon Joe, Anita Fenton, Mary Sullivan, Janet Rauktis,
Rita Therese Downey, and Kathy Johnson.
5. Pastor's Report: Financially the parish is in good shape. There has been a very
good response to Father Foley's letter explaining the parish needs. Dennis will get
the choir robes. John Anderson will be doing landscaping along the new walkway to
the rectory.
6. Old Business: All parish organizations should continue sending a summary of their
ministry to Anita to be put on the upcoming Christ the King website. The website
should be up by January 8th. The address is www.christthekingma.org. Sound system
is nearly complete. We are waiting for an overhead microphone above the choir and
a CD system that can be used to broadcast programmed music throughout the
church. The boiler has been fixed with a cost of a little over $3000. Joe will
investigate the cost of electrical work that needs to be completed outside. One of
the Knights has been doing some electrical work inside the church and rectory. On
Thursday, someone will be coming to give an estimate to have the church hall EXIT
lights on 24 hours a day to meet code. The foyer roof will be done in the spring. The
light illuminating Jesus on the front of the building will not be repaired. The new
Christmas schedule worked well and will be used again next year. There has not
been a lot of interest from St. Columba in our twinning efforts. We have two different
populations and our children attend different schools which makes it difficult to form
a partnership. We will explore the feasibility of twinning with a different parish.
7. New Business: New members are needed to serve on the Parish Council.
Interested parishioners should speak to Father Foley. There is also a need for new
altar servers. We have been fortunate with the servers who have filled in, but we
cannot keep expecting the same young people to serve every week.
8. Ministry Reports:
Parish Activities Janet: Parish Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for April 29th.
CYC no representative present. 80 members of the Christ the King CYC will be
attending a retreat with CYC members from Blessed Sacrament.
Women's Guild Mary There was no January meeting. The Womens' Guild will meet in
February and finalize plans for the upcoming Evening of Recollection.
Knights of Columbus Joe Foxwoods trip is January 14th. There are still seats
available.
9. The meeting was concluded with the Hail Mary led by Deacon Joe.
The next meeting will be February 8th at 7:30 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Kathy Johnson
