Couple-to-Couple Ministry
The Couple-to-Couple Ministry offers an alternative to the
traditional Pre-Cana preparation for marriage. The
engaged couple meets first with a parish priest who
dialogues with them on their state of readiness for the
marriage commitment and introduces them to alternative
marriage preparation options, one of which is the
Couple-to-Couple program.
This ministry includes one-on-one meetings between
the engaged couple and a host couple who have several
years of marriage experience, a strong commitment to
marriage, and specialized diocesan training. Ideally meet-
ings begin several months before the wedding date. The
host couple are not marriage counselors. Rather, their
contribution lies in the living marriage experience they are
able to share and in their ability to help the engaged
couple see the necessity of giving first priority to
their relationship. A key goal is improved communication.
The contribution of faith as a foundation for married love
is underscored, and this is reinforced by an openness
toward the work of the Holy Spirit. Words shared at these
meetings are held in strict confidence in an atmosphere of
mutual trust and respect.
