Religious Education For YOUTH & ADULTS (2010-2011)
CHRIST THE KING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
PROGRAM FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS
This is some general information about our programs as we begin another year.
GRADES 1-6: The content of the class work is based on the Sunday scripture readings,
especially the Gospel for the Sunday of the weekend that the class is held.
Classes begin one-half hour before Mass, and then children join their parents at Mass after
the Prayer of the Faithful. Classes are held Saturday at 3:30 pm, Sunday at 8:30 am, and
Sunday at 10:30 am.
GRADES 7-8: Classes meet on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm in the Church Hall, and are
based on a series of comprehensive Catholic textbooks which challenge the students to
express what they believe, to learn about what it means to be Catholic, to understand
what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.
GRADES 9-10: Classes meet on Monday nights from 7-8pm in the Church Hall, and are
based on a series of comprehensive Catholic textbooks which challenge the students to
express what they believe, to learn about what it means to be Catholic, to understand
what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.
Any questions regarding classes or registration, please contact Lauren Mackey,
Coordinator of Religious Education by email at ctkedu1052@gmail.com
or by phone at (508) 752-5514.
Sacramental Preparation:
FIRST PENANCE: Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation begins in September for
those students in Grade 2 (and for those in a higher grade who have not been prepared).
The preparation takes place during the regularly scheduled religious education classes,
and the program is designed for all public, private, and Catholic school students. It is most
helpful that parents participate in the decision of whether their children are able to
understand right from wrong, and that sin is a deliberate action against God’s love. The
celebration of First Penance will be on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10AM.
FIRST EUCHARIST: Preparation for First Eucharist begins in January for those students in
Grade 2 (and for those in a higher grade who have not been prepared). The preparation
takes place during the regularly scheduled religious education classes, and the program is
designed for all public, private and Catholic school students. The celebrations of First
Eucharist have been scheduled for TBA. Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must
submit copies of their baptism certificate.
There will be a Parent Meeting for all Grade 2 students on September 29, 2010 for First
Penance information and on January 26, 2011 for First Eucharist information.
CONFIRMATION: Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in October for
those in Grade 11. (A Parent and Candidate Meeting will be held on September 22, 2010.
Confirmation classes are held monthly on Sunday evenings for 1 and one-half hours.
Class attendance is required, and no more than two classes may be missed. A service
project that demonstrates the Christian model of service is required. The weekly church
bulletin will contain any changes, additions, etc. as the preparation proceeds. Candidates
not baptized at Christ the King must submit copies of their baptism certificate.
The date for the celebration of Confirmation is TBA.
