Religious Education For YOUTH & ADULTS (2011-2012)
CHRIST THE KING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
PROGRAM FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS
This is some general information about our programs as we begin another year.
GRADE 1: The content of the class work is based on the Sunday scripture
readings, specifically the Gospel for the Sunday of the weekend that the class is
held.
GRADES 2-6: In grade 2, we offer a program that prepares children to receive the
Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. In grades 3-6, classes will be using a
new textbook, which focuses on content-centered catechesis, while incorporating
liturgical catechesis and study of Scripture.
Classes for grades 1-6 are held on Saturdays from 3pm to 4pm, and on Sundays
from 10am to 11am. We encourage all families to attend mass either before or after
Religious Education classes.
GRADES 7-8: Classes meet on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm in the Church Hall, and
are based on a series of comprehensive Catholic textbooks that challenge the
students to express what they believe, to learn about what it means to be Catholic,
to understand what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.
GRADES 9-10: Classes meet on Monday nights from 7-8pm in the Church Hall, and
are based on a series of comprehensive Catholic textbooks which challenge the
students to express what they believe, to learn about what it means to be Catholic,
to understand what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.
Any questions regarding classes or registration, please contact Lauren Bjork,
Coordinator of Religious Education by email at ctkedu1052@gmail.com or by
phone at (508) 752-5514.
Sacramental Preparation:
FIRST PENANCE: Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation begins in
September for those students in Grade 2 (and for those in a higher grade who have
not been prepared).
The preparation takes place during the regularly scheduled religious education
classes, and the program is designed for all public, private, and Catholic school
students. It is most helpful that parents participate in the decision of whether their
children are able to understand right from wrong, and that sin is a deliberate action
against God’s love. The celebration of First Penance will be on Saturday,
December 10th, 2011 at 10AM.
FIRST EUCHARIST: Preparation for First Eucharist begins in January for those
students in Grade 2 (and for those in a higher grade who have not been prepared).
The preparation takes place during the regularly scheduled religious education
classes, and the program is designed for all public, private and Catholic school
students. The celebration of First
Eucharist is scheduled for Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at 10:00AM. Candidates not
baptized at Christ the King must submit copies of their baptism certificate.
There will be a Parent Meeting for all Grade 2 parents on September 14th at 6:
30PM for an overview of the year and these very important sacraments, December
7th at 6:30PM for First Penance information and on March 14th, 2012 at 6:30PM for
First Eucharist information.
CONFIRMATION: Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in October
for those in Grade 11. (A Parent and Candidate Meeting will be held on September
28th at 6:30PM. Confirmation classes are held monthly on Sunday evenings for two
hours. Class attendance is required, and no more than two classes may be missed.
A service ministry project that demonstrates the Christian model of service is
required. The weekly church bulletin will contain any changes, additions, etc. as
the preparation proceeds. There will also be a special retreat for all candidates for
the sacrament of Confirmation. The retreat will be held on Saturday, March 10th,
2012. More information on the retreat will be made available to candidates at the
first class.
Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must submit copies of their baptism
certificate.
The date for the celebration of Confirmation is TBA.
