Religious Education For YOUTH & ADULTS   (2009-2010)
CHRIST THE KING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
PROGRAM FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS

This is some general information about our programs as we begin another year.

GRADES 1-6: The content of the class work is based on the Sunday scripture readings, especially the
Gospel for the Sunday of the weekend that the class is held. Classes begin one-half hour before Mass, and
then children join their parents at Mass after the Prayer of the Faithful. Classes are held Saturday at 3:30 pm,
Sunday at 8:30 am, and Sunday at 10:30 am.

GRADES 7-8: Classes meet on Tuesday nights from 7-8 in the Church Hall, and are based on a series of
comprehensive Catholic textbooks which challenge the students to express what they believe, to learn
about what it means to be Catholic, to understand what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.

GRADES 9-10: Classes meet on Monday nights from 7-8 in the Church Hall, and are based on a series of
comprehensive Catholic textbooks which challenge the students to express what they believe, to learn
about what it means to be Catholic, to understand what the Church teaches and how best to respond to it.

FIRST PENANCE: Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation begins in September for those students in
Grade 2 (and for those in a higher grade who have not been prepared). The preparation takes place during
the regularly scheduled religious education classes, and the program is designed for all public, private, and
Catholic school students. It is most helpful that parents participate in the decision of whether their children
are able to understand right from wrong, and that sin is a deliberate action against God’s love. The
celebration of First Penance will be on
Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10AM.

FIRST EUCHARIST: Preparation for First Eucharist begins in January for those students in Grade 2 (and for
those in a higher grade who have not been prepared). The preparation takes place during the regularly
scheduled religious education classes, and the program is designed for all public, private and Catholic
school students. The celebrations of First Eucharist have been scheduled for
Saturday, May 1 and 8, 2009 at
10AM
with rehearsals taking place the night before. Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must submit
copies of their baptism certificate.

CONFIRMATION: Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in October for those in Grade 11. (A
Parent Meeting is held in September.) Confirmation classes are held monthly on Sunday evenings for 1 and
one-half hours. Class attendance is required, and no more than two classes can be missed. A service project
that demonstrates the Christian model of service will be required. The weekly church bulletin will contain any
changes, additions, etc. as the preparation proceeds. Candidates not baptized at Christ the King must
submit copies of their baptism certificate.

The date for the celebration of Confirmation is TBA.

If school has been cancelled or dismissed, Religious Education classes at Christ the King are also cancelled.
If inclement weather occurs during the weekend and it is necessary to cancel classes, please listen to WTAG
or go to their website.

If you have questions or concerns, please call the Religious Education Office—508.752.5514

CHRIST THE KING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM TO PREPARE ADULTS TO BECOME FULL
MEMBERS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Participation in the Rite of Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the method by which adults complete a process of
prayer, meditation, and study to become full members of the Roman Catholic Church.

If you are married to a Catholic or attend Mass and would like to learn more about the Church with the
possibility of also becoming a Catholic
If you are unbaptized and have become dissatisfied about the lack of spirituality in your life
If you are a baptized Catholic but have never received formal Religious Education, First Eucharist, or
Confirmation
If you have been baptized into another Christian denomination, but remain interested in the teachings of the
Catholic Church--
Then please join us at an Inquiry Session to be held at a convenient time for you. Please complete the
following form and place it in the Sunday collection basket, call the rectory at 508.754.5361 to speak to Father
Millott or Father Riley or contact us at (
admin@christthekingma.org).

I would like more information on the RCIA Inquiry Sessions.
