From time to time there may be important commentary from our pastor or from the
chancery that he will want to share with our entire parish. Please return here again.
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK:
July 4th 2010!
Dear Parishioners,
It is a year already since I took up residence at Christ the
King as your pastor. Some things remain constant but a
lot has changed. Priest transfer happens. They always
have and they will continue to happen in the future. I
think that is a given. Having fewer priests is also true. It is
a changing world and it is a changing church. My
imagination sees two priests serving Christ the King
parish. The reality is now there is only one!
There has been a wonderful history of active lay ministry
among the people of this parish over many, many years.
This is a time to celebrate and thank each and everyone
for your active commitment to your church, and to your
God through your parish. Other priests who have served
among you continue to speak highly about you. Bishop
McManus told me he sees Christ the King as a great
assignment for newly ordained priests to get started. At
this moment there is no other priest to assign as the
Parochial Vicar to replace father Riley. I am happy to
welcome Father John Lizewski as a priest in residence
among us. Fr. Lizewski has a full time ministry at Anna
Maria College. He will preside at Mass and lead the
Sunday Eucharist and week days as he is able. Fr.
Lizewski will not be on the parish ministry staff. We
continue to be blessed with two deacons: Joe
Baniukiewicz and Mike Chase, an excellent music director
in Dennis Ferrante, and this summer we will welcome a
new Religious Education leader to follow the retiring of
Kathy Cushing. Kathy has served your children and you
well and let us salute her for all her great work and
ministry. I will be presenting Lauren Mackay to you later
in the summer and more importantly in time to start the
fall class sessions and sacramental programs.
Exciting times? Yes! Changes? Yes!Are we all up to do
what needs to be done? Yes! I believe that Christ the
King parish is up making each new day the best day of
our lives with God and with one another. All ministries,
all the committees, and all the parish activities will
continue thanks to your hard work and personal
dedication. Thank you for all the great work.
Now the needed reality....new people to get involved with
a ministry! Step forward and volunteer. Make sure the
sick get communion, the homebound get visited, the
needy get help, and the liturgies of the parish are staffed
with lectors, communion ministers, ushers, and collectors
and the youth are gathered and have a ministry to keep
them alive in faith, filled with excitement and involved at
Christ the king. There is always a need for new people to
take places among the regulars. At this moment I ask you
to think about, pray about, and act to be involved. Later
as needs reveals itself, I may be more direct and personal
requesting your assistance. I hope at the moment that I
can count on you.
