MINUTES OF PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
March 3, 2008
1.        Meeting called to order by Father Foley

2.        Father Foley opened the meeting with a prayer and
members joined him in the Lord’s Prayer, and then members read
the Mission Statement. Minutes were approved but Father stated
that Anita thinks the minutes should be approved at a meeting
before being put in the bulletin. Others on the council felt that when
the minutes were e-mailed to members for corrections before
publication, approval was assumed with correction sent. Father will
talk to Anita about her concerns.

3.        Present: Father Foley, Chris McSherry, Deacon Joe, Vincent
Matulaitis, Mary Sullivan, Margaret Abboud, Janet Rauktis, Paul
Franco, Mike Chase, Geraldine Marks, and Kathy Johnson

4.        Financial Report: We are in good financial shape right now.
We are about $5500 ahead now, but collections tend to drop
beginning in May and continue to decline throughout the summer.
A budget meeting will be called soon. There will be a chrism mass
on March 18th at St. Paul’s. Someone from the parish can pick up
the oils and present them at the mass on Holy Thursday. Masses
during Holy Week: Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday 7:30
pm and Easter Sunday 7:30, 9, and 11 am.
Additional Business  Through Father, Anita states that the CYC is
the only group that has updated their information on the website.
Janet stated that updated information about the Parish
Activities/Men’s Club was given to Mindy. All groups should give
Mindy contact information which will be available at the rectory,
rather than put in the new booklet because contact names change
frequently. A parishioner whose son is serving in Iraq spoke to
Father about having an Armed Forces Day in May. All families who
have a loved one serving in the armed forces would be invited to
celebrate mass in their honor. There will be a form in a future
bulletin asking for names of military personnel and where they are
stationed. Anyone can also contact Mindy at the rectory with this
information. Judy Tonelli-Brown has sent an e-mail to Anita Fenton
thanking the parish for letting her park in the church lot. In turn, she
has graciously offered to do design work for church ministries.

Temporal Administrator: Deacon Joe  We received three estimates
for the replacement doors and we will be going with the least
expensive. The estimates ranged from $12,000 to $23,000.The
doors have been ordered and we are in the process of getting
estimates for the new boilers. We have an estimate from the alarm
company to update the system for about $2300. There is a new part-
time custodian, who is a custodian at the courthouse, who will work
four hours Monday and Friday and two hours on Saturday. A
parishioner has offered to paint the foyer. He will scrape and do
“popcorn” plastering. This donation of time and talent is greatly
appreciated. The rectory windows will be power-washed. All
groups using the church facilities are reminded to leave the area
used the same way it was found. Rooms need to be vacuumed or
swept, and all trash needs to be brought to the dumpster by the
group. Two men will be in to strip, clean and wax the floors.
Anyone interested in helping to polish the church pews are asked
to contact the rectory. Deacon Joe will be asking the Scouts to help
too. The speakers need to be adjusted or rewired; there are some
shorts.

5.        Old Business: A representative from each of the ministries
should attend the meetings which are usually held on the first
Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The Knights are still interested
in getting together information to publish a new booklet outlining
the ministries available in the parish. All organizations are asked to
look at the website and e-mail the site administrator with any
corrections. Each organization should e-mail the site administrator
even if there are no corrections so we can be sure every group has
had a chance to update their information before publication. Each
group should have an up-to-date contact person. The website is:
www.christthekingma.org. If your ministry is not listed, please
write a description of your work and send it to the site
administrator. Thank you in advance for your attention

6.        Social Committee:  Parish Appreciation Banquet is schedule
for May 3rd after 4 pm mass.
7.        CCD: Confirmation is April 1st
8.        CYC: Chris The annual show will be held on April 24th, 25th,
and 26th. The show is The Children of Eden which is about Adam
and Eve and Noah’s Ark. The kids are really excited and rehearsals
are going well. They will be selling ads after masses on March 29th
and 30th. Tickets will be sold after masses on April 12th, 13th, 19th,
and 20th. There will be a song from the play performed for
Communion Meditation during the masses on the 19th and 20th.
The CYC will sell Easter flowers after mass on Palm Sunday. After
the 9:00 mass on Easter Sunday, there will be an egg hunt for
children. About 20 kids will be volunteering at Camp Sunshine the
last week of June. A committee will be formed to plan a mass for
high school seniors of Christ the King and neighboring parishes.
Father Foley will work with the kids and is looking for high school
seniors to be on the committee. The mass will be held on June 9th
or 10th. Parents will be invited and there will be coffee and…
served after the mass.
9.        Women’s Guild: Mary The CYC and the women’s Guild paid
for rug cleaning in the Johnson Room. Father thanked them for a
job well done. Kathy Lauring is looking into fixing some pulls in the
rug. There will be an Evening of Recollection on March 11th at 6pm.
Sister Paula will be the speaker.
10.        Post Bereavement Committee:  Margaret Father Dennis
form St. Mary’s Albanian Church will speak on March 10th at 7pm.
Terry Philbix, a counselor, will speak on Monday, April 21st at 7pm.
11.        Knight of Columbus: no report
12.        Mustard Seed Committee: Margaret Mr. Abboud will cook
dinner at Christ the King on the last Wednesday of the month and
the food will then be delivered to the Mustard Seed. The committee
is looking for members to clean up the kitchen in the church hall
after cooking, to deliver the food to the Mustard Seed, and to serve
at the Mustard Seed. Individuals or groups can get involved. For
more information or to volunteer, contact Margaret by calling 508-
753-2709 or e-mailing her at maglons@msn.com
13.        Interfaith Hospitality Janet The committee is working on a
new format with St. Bernards. Rather than having the families
move to different parishes, they are going to try using St. Bernards
as a stable area. We would be responsible for the 2nd and 3rd
weeks of May. Everything would be done the same as always, but
we would be volunteering at St. Bernards rather than Christ the
King. If volunteers are unwilling to go to St. Bernards, we can still
do it here, but for the families involved, it would be nice if we could
go to St. Bernards. The committee will be meeting soon and
information will be in the bulletin.
14.        Gift Cards Father Foley About nine people have signed up
to help sell grocery gift cards after the masses. Anyone who shops
at Big Y, Shaws, or Stop and Shop can buy a gift card to do their
shopping. The gift cards come in different denominations and can
be used for full value. The person buying the card does not pay
anything extra. The store gives a percentage of the amount spent
on gift cards to help fight homelessness. Cards will not be sold on
Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday. The following week and every
week thereafter, the cards will be sold. Please consider buying a
card each week to do your weekly shopping.
The meeting was concluded with a prayer led by Deacon Joe
followed by the recitation of the Hail Mary.  The next meeting will
be April 8th at 7:30 p.m. All parish organizations should send a
representative to the meeting.

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please see
Father Foley.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Johnson
Parish Council Secretary
